Super Visa
Super Visa for Parents and Grandparents
A Super Visa allows eligible parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to visit Canada for up to 5 years per entry, with multiple entries for up to 10 years. Health insurance is required, and the host in Canada must meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI).

Super Visa x Visitor Visa
A regular visitor visa typically allows up to 6 months per entry. The Super Visa is only for parents/grandparents and allows up to 5 years per entry, sem necessidade de extender logo após chegar.
Visa-Exempt? You can still apply
If you’re visa-exempt, you can still be approved for a Super Visa and receive a letter to present to the border officer on arrival (that letter authorizes the longer stay). If you fly to Canada, most visa-exempt travellers also need an eTA.
Health Insurance (Required)
- Must be valid for at least 1 year from the date you plan to enter Canada
- Minimum CAD $100,000 coverage (health, hospitalization, repatriation)
- Can be from a Canadian insurer or an approved foreign insurer that meets IRCC/OSFI requirements
- Paid policy (quotes are not accepted) Bring your paid policy to show at the border if requested.
Host’s Income (MNI)
Your child or grandchild in Canada must meet or exceed MNI for the family size (include everyone in the calculation—host’s household plus the visiting parent/grandparent).
Extending your stay (Visitor Record & Maintained Status)
If you need to stay longer than you were authorized, apply for a Visitor Record at least 30 days before your status expires. If you apply on time and remain in Canada, you can stay while IRCC processes your application under maintained status.
